Over the next three years, we are making our playgrounds sun-safe, with work underway to install shade over every playground in Brisbane by 2025. As the skin-cancer capital of the world, this lifesaving program will help protect parents, carers, and children.
Our new Sun-safe suburban playgrounds program will see over 50 shade sails installed, and trees planted at parks across Brisbane within the next 12 months. Our local playgrounds at Narrung Street, Middle Park and Sanananda Street, Darra will be the first locations in our area to receive shade under this program.
More shade over play equipment will allow the community to use our parks more often, especially during summer, by cooling playground areas as well as reducing sun and UV radiation exposure.
